Privacy Policy
The Logistician is a daily paper about technology and logistics. This page explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. The short version: you can read everything without giving us anything, we only measure what you read if you say yes, and if you sign up for the newsletter we keep your email address and use it for the newsletter only.
Who we are
The Logistician is responsible for your data (the “controller” under the GDPR):

Reading the site
You need no account to read The Logistician. We show no advertising. We would like to measure which stories are read, and we only do so if you accept cookies (see Cookies, below).
Like every website, ours cannot be delivered without some technical data. Each time your browser asks for a page, our hosting provider receives your IP address, your browser type, the page you asked for and the time. It uses this to send you the page and to protect the site against abuse, and keeps these logs for a short period. We do not use them to identify you. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website (GDPR article 6(1)(f)).
Some story photos are loaded straight from the photo libraries Unsplash and Pexels. When they are, your browser connects to their servers, which see your IP address the way any website you load something from does. Everything else, including our fonts, comes from our own site.
The newsletter
If you sign up for the newsletter, we store:
- your email address,
- when you signed up and when you confirmed your address,
- when you unsubscribed, if you do.
We use your address to send you The Logistician’s newsletter and, rarely, an invitation to an event we organise. Nothing else. We never sell, rent or share your address for anyone else’s marketing.
Our legal basis is your consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email, or by writing to ahoy@readthelogistician.com. Withdrawing does not affect what we sent before.
We keep your address for as long as you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe we stop sending at once and keep only the note that this address unsubscribed, so that it is never mailed again by mistake. If you would rather we delete even that, ask and we will.
Writing to us
If you email us, we keep your message and your address for as long as we need them to answer and follow up, and no longer.
Who processes data for us
We use a few service providers, each bound by a data processing agreement and only allowed to handle your data on our instructions:
- Vercel Inc., which hosts the website.
- Supabase, whose database stores the newsletter list, on servers in Ireland (EU).
- An email delivery service to send the newsletter. We will name it on this page before the first issue goes out.
Vercel is a US company, so some data can be processed outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens it is protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Our stories link to the outlets that reported them, and the footer links to our social media accounts. Once you follow a link, the other site’s own privacy policy applies.
Cookies
When you first visit, we ask whether you accept cookies. Your answer is stored in one small cookie, called consent, so we do not ask again. It holds only “accepted” or “declined” and expires after a year. It is necessary for the site to remember your choice, so it needs no permission.
If you accept, we may use analytics cookies to count visits and see which stories are read, so we can make the journal better. We do not use them for advertising, we do not sell what they tell us, and we will name the analytics service on this page before it goes live. If you decline, no analytics cookie is set and you read exactly the same site.
Our legal basis for analytics cookies is your consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a)). You can at any time.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- see the personal data we hold about you,
- have it corrected if it is wrong,
- have it deleted,
- restrict or object to how we use it,
- receive it in a format you can take elsewhere,
- withdraw your consent at any time.
Write to ahoy@readthelogistician.com and we will answer within a month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Changes
When this policy changes we update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects how we use subscribers’ addresses, we tell subscribers by email first. See also our Terms of Use.
